Sarasota High School's "floating classroom" conducts educational tours in Sarasota Bay for students and the community.

Marina Jack has generously provided dockage for our vessel at the Sarasota Bayfront. The Carefree Learner II is located on the south end of the marina in Slip A31.

The original Carefree Learner was constructed in 1978 by Sarasota High School students with support from the local community. In 2026, the Carefree Learner II was built and launched using funding provided by the West Coast Inland Navigation District and the Sarasota County Government. This new vessel enhances our ability to provide hands-on science experiences connected to ecological studies and STEM education.

In addition to Sarasota High School’s Marine Science Program, classes throughout the Sarasota County School district have the opportunity to participate in field trips aboard the CFL II. Thanks to the continued support of Sarasota County Schools, 7th grade classes in the district are able to take part in field trips at no cost to the students.
